Our Favorite Weekend Getaways from Boca Raton

In Boca Raton, we live where people vacation. For that reason, you might think vacations are not necessary. But change is good, and sometimes you need a nice weekend getaway to keep things fresh or to keep the kids occupied.

Here are three drivable weekend getaways that will have you feeling re-energized while also taking in some of the great things the state of Florida has to offer.

Universal Studios, Orlando

Universal Studios is home to some of the world’s most advanced and incredible (pun intended Hulk fans!) attractions and rides, a place that has something for everyone as long as they love hair-raising rides and stomach-churning rollercoasters. (We kid – there really is something for everyone!) You can go on an adventure with Spider-Man, become a wizard in the land of Harry Potter, or stare down a disgruntled T-Rex on the Jurassic Park River Adventure.

In addition to the theme park itself, the resorts have everything your heart could possibly desire. Themed hotels give you a range of options (our favorite is still the Hard Rock!) that let you do anything from float down a lazy river to chill by the lagoon next to a float-up bar and a sandy beach. When the sun goes down, you can head to CityWalk for great food and a whole host of evening entertainment from karaoke to the Blue Man Group.

Key West

Even the drive alone is worth the trip to Key West, a breathtaking jaunt across the seven-mile bridge with ocean views on both sides. Cruise down the final stretch of the 2,369-mile U.S. Route 1 to the southernmost point of the USA, a paradise that attracts tourists from all over the world but maintains its colloquial charm.

Key West is particularly famous for its sunsets, where every evening people gather at Mallory Square in a time-honored tradition to watch the sun go down. You will feel like you are standing in a postcard as you watch the sun change colors and drop beneath the horizon. After that, you can celebrate a host of street performers and food vendors in an arts festival with vibrant performers and talented musicians.

Miami

If you head to Miami for the famous beach and flashy lifestyle, you won’t be disappointed. The area is filled with colorful buildings, picturesque beaches, and fantastic people-watching. During the day, the beach offers great ocean waves and water activities fit for all ages, while at night, tourists and locals alike rub elbows at the area’s numerous bars, clubs, and exclusive parties.

But Miami has so much more than the beach. It is home to the world-famous art event Art Basel, and is a hub for contemporary art year-round. The Museum of Contemporary Art is a must for art aficionados and also offers free monthly jazz concerts. If shopping is your thing, North Miami’s Antique Row is a luxury shopping destination that’s a little off the beaten path. This area is home to a concentrated collection of vintage dealers, many of whom specialize in high-end furniture and home décor.

We are just scratching the surface of the great things on offer just a short drive away.

The only decision to be made is where to go first!
