Historic District

Pembroke Pines was incorporated in the 1960’s. The city’s name, Pembroke Pines, is traced back to Sir Edward Reed, a Member of Britain’s Parliament for the County of Pembroke in 1874, who purchased and farmed land in the 1880s which today occupies much of what is now the nearby city of Dania Beach. In 1992, the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew led to a steep increase in the population as many residents of Miami-Dade moved northwards. As a result Pembroke Pines was considered one of the fastest growing cities in America.
