A Cozy Community

Highland Beach is located in the southern portion of eastern Palm Beach County, which is in the southeastern part of the State of Florida. The Town encompasses just over one square mile; in fact, the town is so quaint that it doesn’t have a stoplight! This cozy town is predominantly a residential community and is home both to retirees as well as people employed in the nearby cities and counties.

Location

Highland Beach is a highly accessible location situated only 30-45 minutes from both Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale International Airports.  The town is an hour north of Miami, and is nestled between Delray Beach to the north and Boca Raton to the south; vibrant and popular city destinations.  The mild weather draws visitors and residents to Highland Beach with its average high temperature of a balmy 75.6°, and an average low of only 55.8°, making for extremely pleasant year-round living.

Population of Highland Beach

Despite its size, Highland Beach offers all the amenities of beachfront living and is an extremely popular tourist destination. The year-round population of Highland Beach is around 4,000 but that number swells to around 8,500 during the winter months. The town’s intimate feel attracts retirees and other residents who want small-town living but with close access to the cultural attractions of Miami and other nearby locations such as Delray Beach and Boca Raton.

Community Events & Activities

Highland Beach’s small size doesn’t stop the community from being actively engaged and involved. For example, the town sponsors a program to protect the nesting grounds of endangered sea turtles on Highland Beach’s beachfront. Trained volunteers monitor the activity of sea turtles and mark nests on the beaches. The town also sponsors weekly children’s craft sessions as well as yoga, weekly movies, game nights, beach clean up and holiday events.

Outdoor Life

Highland Beach is a gorgeous coastal hammock paradise where residents and visitors can enjoy the three-mile stretch of beach regarded by some as virtually private due to the secluded location! There are also numerous outdoor activities to enjoy in the nearby towns of Delray Beach and Boca Raton.  Both neighbouring towns offer excellent golf, tennis and water sports facilities for all ages.

Historic Districts

Founded in 1949 with only 21 residents, Highland Beach is proud of its small town status and its almost entirely residential architecture.  The “main street” is famed as the beautiful tree-lined stretch of the A1A – Florida’s state road. 

Family Friendly

Highland Beach is a haven for families looking for small town living close to cities such as Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Highland Beach children attend the highly rated schools in nearby Boca Raton, and can also benefit from the weekly activities offered in their own town such as craft sessions, water fun and activities offered by the local resort.

The Business Community

As Highland Beach is primarily residential, the business community is small with tourism as the principal employer. .  Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the Highland Beach workforce, and 13.83% of people work from home.
